Interior Design Tricks to Brighten A Room

Have you ever been in a situation where you have a dingy and dim room that needs a bit of brightening up? You’d be amazed at how simple it can be to bring some light to a room with needing to break the bank.

You cannot imagine what effect a luminous house can have on your mood when you start to feel grumpy and sad all day long. To stop it from getting to this point, I am your problem-solver. Here are some tips and tricks to brightening your home – and your mood:

1) Lights.

turned on clear glass light bulb

Sound pretty obvious right? However, I bet you might not be maximizing your light. You will want to have multiple light sources, as one light fixture is not enough to brighten a room (especially if it is a dark one).

You will want a table lamp or a floor lamp, but it depends on the type and size of the room. For example, if you are trying to illuminate your bedroom, you will want to add a table lamp by your bedside. If your bedroom is spacious, you can add a floor lamp in the corner of the room.

2) Paint

At this point, you are probably thinking, why are you even reading this article with these obvious tips but, hear me out. I cannot stress this out enough, paint your ceiling white. Having a white ceiling will help reflect the light and give a luminous effect.

If you do not want an all-white room and want to paint your walls different colors, I suggest lavender, lemon yellow, powder blue, or lime green. All pastels colors are preferred, but you should know that only a neutral white color will be the most reflective

3) Mirrors

brown cardboard boxes on brown wooden floor

Add Mirrors

Did you know that you can add mirrors to add light to a room? With their reflective properties, if you strategically place your mirror, it can make your space feels not only brighter but also bigger; why not kill two birds with one stone?

Where to place the mirrors, you may ask., Put them opposite to your window or any of your light sources. Invest in a big mirror, since it will reflect more light.

4) Ditch the Clutter

I’m not too fond of a room with too many things. Do you ever feel like you’re suffocating when you’re in a particular room? Examine all of your “things.” When a room is crammed with stuff, it feels gloomy and tiny. All of it should be reduced. You can add a few artworks to your wall, but keep it minimalist.

5) Your Floors.

Board, Wooden, Texture, Grunge, Panel, Plank, Vintage

Choose Light Brown.

We talked about the ceilings, the walls, now let’s get to the floor. If you want additional light, you will want to have lights tiles or flooring. Choose a light brown or even white if you can. Like we’ve been mentioning so far, the more white in a room, the more light will reflect.

6) Colorful Rugs

Okay, I think it is the only time I will talk about adding colors to make a room brighter. A wide, colorful rug is a simple way to define a space in your house. It may also be utilized to add personality to your area and showcase your unique style.

7) Use Shiny Surfaces Or Transparent Furniture.

While you don’t want to go overboard with the glare on the walls, shiny materials can help you bounce light. Choose glistening things like acrylic accents, transparent furniture, and mirrored surfaces like a reflecting coffee table for a space with little sunshine.

Did you ever consider that the furniture you pick affects the amount of light in your room? Choose a small sofa in bright tones like white or ivory to make your space feel more spacious and lighter. Transparent acrylic pieces can also aid in illumination improvement.

That’s it! Those are my top tips for illuminating ANY space. I hope that it put you in a good mood and that you enjoy redecorating. If you know any other ways to brighten up a dark room t, I’d love to hear them in the comments below!

Coastal Interior Design: Bringing Charming Beach Vibes Into Your House

What, who said coastal interior décor is out of style?

Drawn from beach inspiration, using natural and raw elements, the all-time classic beach house décor is not going out of fashion anytime soon.

But, the key here is to strategically use the right tones and elements to create a perfectly scaled coastal space.

#1. Add in a Sea-Inspired Color Palette

Add in a Sea-Inspired Color Palette

What truly makes a coastal chic beachy feel?

The bright yellow and orange rays of sunlight, the turquoise blue sky, the vibrant greens of nature, pale, calm hues of shells and striking blue waters.

No matter how far you are from the beach, you can capture the iconic elements of the coast by incorporating Hamptons style (a synonym for coastal style) hues mixed with natural details.

Let’s see how:

  • Taking inspiration from the sea, the sky and the beach, create key focal points in your coastal-inspired interiors by adding bold and vibrant aquamarine or light-blue hues.

  • Define your home’s airy atmosphere with meaningful light and neutral shades such as beige. Going with white will give you a relaxed, comfortable and coastal-inspired space.

  • If classic Hamptons style represents more dusks and dawns for you, I suggest you opt for more warm colors like reds and yellows.

  • And, if you are more a fan of modern coastal beach glam rather than the classic one, cool blues and metals instantly transform and illuminate your space.

By playing with the right colors, you’ll be able to bring out the perfect coastal aesthetics.

#2. Incorporate More and More Space

Incorporate More and More Space

When’s the last time you went to the beach? Do you remember feeling enclosed or clustered? Or, was there enough space for even a hundred elephants – is that what you call exaggeration?

When your feet are immersed in the sandy beach and you look over at the sea, you get an instant feeling of space and ease. There’s not one inch of space for a claustrophobic panic.

If your intention is to create the same inspired beach and ocean, creating a large open space in your home is a must.

Furnishings should be arranged in a way that will keep a room uncluttered and enable you to feel an airy ocean-like breeze.

#3. Decorate With Bamboo

Decorate With Bamboo

How to create a beachy vibe without being kitschy?

The answer lies in the stunning beauty of bamboo.

If you are someone who likes leaning more towards smooth, neutral hues and a classic rustic-like beach feel, you’d find the perfect tropical vibes in bamboo decorations.

Nothing can describe a relaxed coastal design style as much as a collection of bamboo-based furnishings.

One of my favorite mixtures is the striking and daring pairing of bamboo with sea-blue glass furnishings. Versatile combinations of bamboo furniture and wall décor are sure to epitomize coastal design, giving a rough and brushed look of nature.

#4. Seashells Make the Perfect Statement

Seashells Make the Perfect Statement

Another impressive dichotomy that symbolizes coastal interior design is the use of seashells to highlight the beach season in a house.

Displaying seashells – whether on the dining room table, the kitchen countertop, bedroom desks or coffee table – creates an eye-catching focal point that aids in balancing beautiful coastal features with more rough elements.

Rounding up your house with different types of seashells will always make you think of soft sand, airy clouds and a soothing sea.

Here’s how you can incorporate a breath of the ocean into your home:

  • There’s no more gorgeous centerpiece than a wooden basket try filled with seashells, starfish and corals.

  • Boats are other critical elements that highlight a seaside space and adding a boat decoration packed with seashells and starfish are touching the sky limit.

  • How about creating a wall gallery with lots of cool seashells, starfish, corals and other sea items?

  • If a coastal entryway doesn’t work for you, how about a beautiful candle lantern with seashells, starfish and sand inside?

  • The favorite of some…a large mirror shaped with charming seashells, corals and sea urchins.

Remember: keep it simple, cool and you’ll have a private beach just for yourself.

Masculine Home Decor: Manly Home Decorating Ideas for Guys Living Single

In the world of home décor, I’m sure men will have difficulty understanding the terms “chintzy” or “pelmet.” They spend their whole time overthinking and end up wanting to return to that full-blown man cave.

We know how difficult it is to make sure you have an attractive yet manly space and this is why we’ve combined some useful tips to make your manhood shine.

#1. Masculine Decor Colours

Masculine Decor Colours

It’s easy to notice how the closet of most men is a sea of dismal neutrals or an ocean of blues. And, when it comes to bright and light colors like pink, I’d say they hold an unlikeable allure for them. I mean, you don’t really see men turning up at interviews in pink shirts and ties, don’t you?

Everyone knows when it comes to gender, not all colors are treated equally. Some might say people need to change their thinking, but history tells us that from the day babies are brought home and are cushioned in pink or blue blankets, the implications of gender and color are already made.

All this story to tell you that you won’t find shimmery or light colour palettes in a man’s space. More attention should be given to stronger and darker hues that reflect male promiscuity. (Not my claim, but that’s what the psychology of gender color says).

For the bedroom, you might opt for a masculine color palette ranging between classic neutral palettes such as black and white and moody hues of darker and warm colors, avoiding any bright shades of yellow and pink.

#2. Go Vintage

Go Vintage

I’ve always wondered how vintage style is perceived by men and I’ve found that there might be something classically appealing about this look that makes most men go crazy.

Vintage items are not really preferred by all because it is considered old fashioned. But, here’s the twist: vintage style has become the new norm in the men’s industry.

You don’t need to go whole the “vintage Americana” style to incorporate a vintage theme to your house. For instance, you can buy older desks, sofas, shelves, Ottomans, beds, dressers and tables that give off an old sentimental vibe. You can also consider antique decoration pieces and paintings to make the space more attractive.

#3. Always Consider Comfort

Always Consider Comfort

Here’s an insight into the brain of a man (well, at least a typical one): My sofa might be lacking in style but as long as it’s comfortable, it works perfectly for me.

Women always want to pull off that ultra-sophisticated and modern look, but what counts the most for men is not an attractive look but rather a comfortable space.

So, create a soothing environment with comfortable furniture, soft rugs and cushions and cozy floor pillows.

#4. Let the Light In

Let the Light In

You can’t let girls always think that most men like living like hermits and in a meth den.

Set the right mood by pouring light into the house. Not that I’m saying to flood your spaces with cheap Ikea lamps.

You can spruce up your room and bring an outside view in your space by making the right use of floor lights and recessed lights.

Trust me, it will get rid of the illusion of cramped space and liven your environment, one that you’ll be happy to show off.

#5. Masculine Textures

Masculine Textures

When it comes to decorating a manly space, textures play a huge, differentiating factor.

If you are unsure or confused about the choice of textures, here’s a guide:

  • Add vibes of strength, character and a masculine appeal to any space with dark and richly wood architectural features.
  • Any rugged materials like exposed brick walls can reflect a masculine appeal.
  • Another option for the perfect masculine decor aesthetic is corrugated metal.

#6. Display Your Interest

Display Your Interest

Don’t you think it’s essential to put your own personal stamp on your room?

The great thing about masculine décor is that you can even break some rules only to incorporate your interest and likes.

Say you are a book lover (which I’m sure most aren’t), you can never go wrong by displaying your whole Harry Potter Series.

If you follow the tips as mentioned above, I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t have a decent and chic place for yourself.

5 Types of Decorative Ceilings That Can Spice up Your Home

No one really likes a boring home enclosed by blank walls, isn’t it?

I mean, there is nothing wrong with a few blank walls but some people don’t like this monotonous “white” feel hanging in every nook and cranny of their house.

So, the only way to add room appeal to your space is to consider a decorative ceiling.

#1. Wood Looks

Wood Looks

Wood ceiling has, is and will always be a popular interior design finishing option due to its natural texture and charming style that can easily warm up any space.

No matter what type of material you’ll be using, a wood ceiling can produce a breath-taking finish to your ceiling and offer an unfathomable value to your architectural structure.

Here are some reasons why the wood ceiling is favoured:

  • Most wood panels are very easy to install.
  • Integrated with wood acoustic panels, wood ceilings can carry out the acoustic conditioning of a room.
  • It can lower the amount of energy required to heat a space.
  • Wood is a material that is easy to recycle.
  • Available in hundreds of models and designs, wood ceilings can never go out of style.

And, whether you are looking for a sleek and modern or classic and rustic look, there’s a wood ceiling for everyone.

Here are some tips from some of our experts:

  • If you are looking for a cozy yet stimulating and formal look for your bedroom, better go for darker and slimmer wood panels.
  • Installing wood ceilings in the bathroom? It will be better to arrange the wood panels horizontally to make the small space feel wider.
  • Looking for a more inviting, soothing look for your kids’ room? A light wood ceiling would be just perfect.
  • Even decorating your ceiling with MDF (medium density fiberboard) planks can provide the look of real wood with finishes.

#2. French Empire Ornamental Ceiling

French Empire Ornamental Ceiling

The French Empire style – the “noble style” – mostly dominated by Greco-Roman models, was known as predominantly propagandistic yet imposingly beautiful with an effect of grandeur.

This style of ceiling depicts the French Empire tastes and can even be incorporated into any contemporary setting. And, if you want to add this touch of elegance and sophistication to your space, only Ultima Max can help you.

#3. Coffered Ceilings

Coffered Ceilings

This very classic design element dates back to Ancient Rome. An era where they were created to decrease the weight and volume of stone ceilings. Eventually, this decorative element saw a surge in popularity during the 9th and 20th centuries.

Aesthetically speaking, coffered ceilings can add a dramatic sense of dimensionality and a touch of elegance to any space. In terms of style, they are quite flexible and can pair just well with the rest of the space.

Little tip: If you consider installing a coffered ceiling in a room, you need to make sure that your ceiling is at least nine feet high.

#4. Tray Ceilings

Tray Ceilings

Wait, aren’t these types of ceilings outdated?

Certainly not!

Also known as the recessed or inverted ceiling, the origins of tray ceilings date back to the French Renaissance, where it was often used in living rooms and large dining halls.

Despite being confused with coffered ceiling due to their strong resemblance, there is actually a sharp contrast between the two styles. While tray ceiling has only a single and large inverted area, a coffered ceiling has a pattern of recesses.

Today, many homeowners still prefer the vintage and classical look compared to the contemporary and sophisticated. To be honest, I don’t blame them. Classical homes do look stunningly great.

Now, you might want to incorporate the tray ceiling but with a touch of modern style. You can pull off this deco-ish feel, but remember if you force this traditional decorative element in a contemporary home, things can quickly go south.

#5. Geometric Ceiling

Geometric Ceiling

That’s the type of ceiling that’s ruling the market nowadays.

With modern homes becoming more and more minimal, geometric ceilings are clean designs that can also showcase some drama, with a hint of sophistication.

Biggest Home Decorating Dos and Don’Ts That Can Make or Break Your Space

Once, someone told me there are no rules for home décor.

But, once you’ve made the wrong choices, won’t guilt creep in?

This is why I’ve spent countless hours analyzing and researching in order to help you avoid committing any of these common decorating mistakes.

#1. Do Take Your Time

Do Take Your Time

I’ve come to realize, more and more, that I am always rushing – rushing from one task to another, rushing through revamping kitchen walls, impatient to choose living room furniture or anxious to get a task done.

I’ve been reflecting on this and I think I should really stop it.

I mean, what’s the result of trying to fit all of the decorating tasks in one day?

Somewhere, it points towards a sense of greediness where you are rushing things, without never stopping to enjoy the process.

#2. Do Design Around Your Needs

Design Around Your Needs

Living room or kitchen, every space comes with its own distinct challenges and assets.

Remember, home décor trends come and go, but you’ll be the one occupying that space, let’s say, for a very long, long time. So, better make it comfortable and functioning rather than posh and sophisticated.

Here’s a little author tip: Make a list of your needs and then base your decorating ideas to suit them.

#3. Do Consider the Architecture of Your Home

Architecture of Your Home

Honestly, do you think you can incorporate a slick, modern look in an ornate Federation home? I’d say it’s even worst than those ugly avocado green bathrooms of the 1970s.

No matter how much you might love linoleum flooring or textured design, you need to make sure that the style works with the architecture of your home.

The same applies to the location of the house.

Much like abstract art, home décor focuses on architectural elements, such as asymmetrical doorways and home furnishings. Close to modern or contemporary home design, this concept allows you to use the clear and fine lines of your home and its location to embrace specific interior design styles that can offer a fresh and stunning perspective.

Let me give you some examples:

  • An early inspired American colonial-style house can inspire the use of subdued muted colors, vintage finishes like oil-rubbed bronze and handmade furniture.

  • An Arabian home would exude luxury and grace mostly through the use of bold colors like turquoise, ornate patterns, metal light fixtures, velvet couches, wood tables and glass décor.

  • I know it’s pretty rare, but when it comes to the house of Amish people, home décor is concentrated on the use of neutral tones, such as greys, blacks, whites and browns, wood furnishings and gaslight fixtures.

  • An African house would depict the exotic feel through the use of earth tones, stone artifacts, handmade furnishings and terracotta or sandstone floors.

#4. Don’t Decorate Only Around One Color

Decorate Only Around One Color

Quickly, let me share a small story: My friend’s a huge fan of the Caribbean Islands and she wanted to bring that coastal retreat to her house. Now comes the fun part: she decorated her whole house in blue and yellow.

It’s hard to imagine a house painted in only one color.

It may sound like a strategically good advice, but trust me, it will not appeal to the eye and won’t certainly make you smile.

#5. Don’t Buy Things Just Because They Are Cheap

Don’t Buy Things Just Because They Are Cheap

Chances are that during your furniture shopping, you will come across items with extremely low prices.

Thing is looking for an affordable sofa or dining table in this world dominated by an ever-present competition is not always easy.

What I recommend is to buy items that might be a little expensive but which will still be efficient in the long run.

#6. Don’t Use White Decor If You Have Kids or Pets

Don't Use White Decor If You Have Kids or Pets

Now, when you have kids who don’t mind at all being dirty, don’t like to clean up and are completely unaffected by clutter and mess, I must say, unless you really want greasy little handprints and stubborn food stains on your walls, you should avoid white décor.

And, it’s even more recommended when you have pets, along with your little Lucifers.

The list of dos and don’t s is not done yet. If you want more of these guidelines, come back for the second part!

Congratulations Newlyweds – How to Decorate Your First Home Together

Finally, you are Mr. and Mrs. Yippee!

Now, take the ultimate plunge and enter the world of the married.

Your first task: create the home design of your dreams, along with your partner.

Sounds fun? Frustrating?

Well, here are some tips to make the process more enjoyable and comfortable for newlyweds.

#1. Decide What You Like

Decide What You Like

Your first time decorating a house with your partner.

Your new house is going to be perfect. The experience will blossom with fun and romance. You and your partner are going to enjoy tackling setting up the house.

Well, when I look back, I remember walking that same path – until life throws a wrench in the situation.

I don’t mean to sound too petty, but even if you are made for each other, arguments are bound to happen, especially when it comes to combining each other’s interior design styles.

Which is why I’ll give you this advice: don’t be close-minded when your other half is sharing his or her sense of style.

Narrow down your tastes and explore the different aspects of your preferred styles.

Consider what both of you would like to add to the house.

Do you need a home office space? Does your sweetheart need a couch in the bedroom – intended for reading?

#2. Find Inspiration

Find Inspiration

Be honest with yourselves. If both of you have bad taste in design, change the trajectory and turn to magazines or the internet to get a better idea about interesting design elements and current trends.

And, when it comes to finding your design inspiration, there’s nothing I like more than wandering through the leaves of home shop catalogs and browsing through Pinterest.

#3. Set Your Budget

Set Your Budget

Suppose you’ve settled on a specific design style, even went furniture shopping, but then you went broke.

What now?

This is the worst possible scenario.

But good news: you can handle this only if you establish a budget and stay within its limits. It is always wise to start your home by making sure you can afford the style that you chose.

Don’t have enough money to fit in all the aesthetics elements? Again, you can handle it, if you both try to sort it out by looking out for thrift stores and opt for DIY projects.

#4. Shop Together

Shop Together

Usually, the response to this step is something along the lines of:

“Um, better you go alone. I’m not used to shopping. I will get bored.”

Don’t even try to do that. Going home shopping can be stressful, especially when you go alone. But, when you have the support of your spouse, you will have stronger feelings about home décor.

The most special thing about this stage is the great bonding time. Just try to avoid those little arguments that can creep in. Remember, both of you have the same objective: to build a comfortable house together.

#5. Keep Memories Alive

Keep Memories Alive

When you walk through your door, you want to feel like this is your home.

Make it personal and intimate by adding personal touches that depict a part of you and your partner.

Suppose you first met your sweetheart in a cute cafe, bringing that cafe-like ambiance in your home will bring you closer to that first love experience and make the whole house look so much sweeter.

Displaying mementos or décor pieces that represent your couple can bring a great sense of comfortability and familiarity to your house.

If nature is the greatest witness of your love story, a tree patterned wallpaper, natural wood and fiber furniture and other hints of green through houseplants can bring that twist of nature in your house.

Go for your favorite things.

If she is a fan of the fragrance of the Paris romance, bring in your bedroom exposed brickwork, flowers of pink shades, a stunning headboard and soft furnishings in jewel tones of purple.

#6. Learn to Compromise

Learn to Compromise

You are more for the sleek, contemporary style with black décor while she or he is lured by everything yellow with a cottage flair.

Don’t try to use that excuse to start a fight out and instead think of a solution.

Compromise by incorporating a black artwork in a yellow backdrop.

I’d end this by saying that when you are setting up your new home, remember you are establishing your journey together. The house that both of you are designing represents the foundation of your happily-ever-after.

The Cheapskate’s Guide to Home Décor

High-tech gadgets and elitist home designs are the expressions of today’s home décor trends. But, how can you improve the quality of your space without hurting your pocketbook? Here are some simple ways we prove that frugal living and a well-decorated home are compatible.

#1. Declutter and Revise

Declutter

There is no need to spend on great gadgets and expensive home products in the first place if your house is clean, without any knick-knacks.

Think about it: wouldn’t a mantel look nicer with only one piece of décor rather than fifteen ones?

The coronavirus pandemic has shifted the focus to simplicity and minimalism, which has awakened a new trend in 2021. In complex times, things have become simpler and replacing aesthetic sensibility, the emphasis is now on formal reduction and functionality.

Apply a discerning eye to all the junk areas of your house and assess the real-life uses of each room.

Take the time to dust your house and get rid of the unsightly items. The place of old, worn out or damaged items are out of your house. Throw away all those unused gadgets and all the other physical symptoms of a cluttered space.

Revitalize your house without spending a dime by moving a few things around. That old and comfy chair in your bedroom – the one you intended to use for reading – might be moved on your porch.

#2. Get Inspired

Get Inspired

If you attempt to replicate what you see, you’ll end up buying a range of costly items, where most of them won’t be worth a plugged nickel.

You don’t need to follow current trends to make an aesthetic statement. For me, home décor is more an expression of your own style and taste. Multi-generational furniture and expensive decorative pieces cannot speak the same desire you have for your home interiors.

I recommend you to do your own research, dive into magazines and browse the net to find your source of inspiration.

#3. Root Through Your Family or Friends’ Unused Things

Family or Friends’ Unused Things

Here’s my nickname at home: “rotto-rooter.”

The reason why I was dubbed as such is because of my habit of searching through old boxes of stuff and reusing ancient items such as my father’s old plant hangers.

No one said you could create purist focal points and timeless designs with only new things.

Before hurrying over to that new store, why don’t you reuse your old pitchers, give them a new layer of fresh paint and match them with your fireplace décor?

#4. Decorate With Nature

Decorate With Nature

Frugal owners who want to add life to their home invite Mother Nature to come over to your place. It is all about creating order and space and bringing out the magic of nature in your house.

Here are some useful tips:

  • Today, people would instead add houseplants to their homes and opt for all sorts of greeneries than transform a dull outdoor corner into an attractive garden.
  • To create that reminiscence of nature, you can opt for branches, stones, pine cones, acorns, and natural wood elements.
  • The color palette plays an equally important role. Instead of going for wildflowers inside a vase, bring neutral or earthly pops of color to your spaces.

#5. Think About Prints

Prints

Do not let the fear of prints stop you from breathing your desire and personality within your own four walls. An otherwise dead and bland room can come to life with some touch of prints. A bright green floral couch in a living room awakens the space and lightens the atmosphere.

What’s more, the boldness of the patterns makes it possible to create a statement by covering only one wall, thus saving money.

#6. Make It Yourself

Make It Yourself

The “new simplicity” trend also expressed the newly established craze of handmade items. Instead of buying from the store, you create your own masterpieces, add a little touch of your creativity and imagination and save a ton of money.

Now, you tell me. How do you unleash your “crafty” and “creative” side within the four walls of your house while pinching your pennies?

Unique Custom Homes | Raising the Walls of a House

Summary

    – Stonewall

    – Brick wall

    – Brick wall

    – Cellular concrete wall

    – Wooden wall

In constructing a house, the structural work includes the foundations, the sanitation, the base, the walls, the frame, the roof and the exterior woodwork.

The next step is the erection of the walls. Usually, the work is carried out with brick, breeze block, stone, wood or cellular concrete, depending on preference.

The lintels are installed progressively at the future locations of the doors and windows.

It is possible to raise the walls of your house in stone, brick, breeze block, cellular concrete or wood.

Stonewall

Sorting the stones

To build a stone wall, you must start by sorting them: the regular ones will be placed at the ends, the irregular ones in the middle of the wall, and you will adopt the long ones for the thickness.

Foundations for a stone wall

The foundations of the walls are dug to a depth of 40 cm. Once the concrete has been poured, the mortar is spread evenly over a thickness of 10 cm, and then the reinforcing bars are laid flat every 15 cm. They are connected every 50 cm with binding wire. The second layer of mortar is applied to a thickness of 10 cm. A drying time of 3 days is necessary.

Create markers

Two stakes are planted at the two ends of the foundations for each wall. Ropes stretched between each stake, every 30 cm, will guide building the wall.

Raising the stone wall

A little mortar is placed and spread on the foundations. A stone is placed in the corner first, then the other rocks along the line. This forms the base of the wall. With a trowel, the mortar is pushed between the stones.

Checking for verticality

Using a spirit level, you can check that the wall is vertical as you go along the rows.

Brick wall

On the prepared foundation, you will hold ropes to serve as markers for the wall.

You’ll begin the installation with the corner bricks. The first row is laid directly on the mortar of the foundation, following the marks of the ropes. It must be well compacted.

For each new brick laid, a layer of mortar is first applied to the face of the previous brick to ensure proper fixing.

The verticality of the wall is checked regularly with the bubble gauge. The angle of the walls is also checked with a square.

Brick wall

The breeze block wall is built on a bed of mortar, which covers the foundations. The markers are marked with chalk lines to guide the construction.

The vertical reinforcing bars are placed to ensure the solidity of the wall.

It will help if you place the breeze blocks with the cells facing down. For each breeze block, a layer of mortar of about 2cm is applied, and the verticality of the wall is checked with a spirit level.

Note: The joints should be staggered by 1/2 breeze block for each row to ensure solidity. For more help, you can contact the professionals at Unique Custom Homes. They will give you an idea of what is needed for your project.

Cellular concrete wall

The cellular concrete installation is done on a clean and flat surface. We start by laying the corner blocks, and we continue by making sure of the good alignment thanks to cords.

A layer of glue is placed on the surface of the block that will receive the next block, and the accuracy of the assembly is regularly checked with a spirit level.

A tap with a mallet on each concrete block after it has been laid allows the glue to be well crushed and the whole to be adjusted.

Note: some cellular concrete blocks are available with a handle. A convenient detail for the assembly!

Wooden wall

Unique Custom Homes | Raising the Walls of a House

Wood-frame houses frequently use wood to build their walls.

Stacked solid wood is the oldest wood construction technique. It is still seen in mountain chalets. Long logs or planks are placed horizontally on the foundation and stacked on top of each other.

Today, you can also build walls quickly on a wooden frame. Once the frame is installed, a panel (particleboard, plywood, ect.) is placed to provide bracing. Thermal insulation is inserted between the panels that cover the exterior and interior facings.

Different types of wood can be used: red cedar, larch, Douglas fir. It will help if you use a local wood species for a lower cost and a more ecological choice.

Who said you cannot bring the lively greens, the turquoise blue sky and the canary yellow sun of the Caribbean to your home

By incorporating the bold and vibrant Caribbean colors, you can submerge yourself in the rich and exquisite culture of the islands. And, no, Caribbean colors are not your usual traditional beach-inspired hues, blue and white. Instead, it consists of a healthy dose of eye-catching tones such as corals, peach, lime, yellow, green and orange. If you’ve ever been to any of these gorgeous islands with beautiful sandy beaches, you’d instantly recognize these colors inspired by the fauna and flora of the islands.

  • Forget the basic whites and neutral tones and brighten up your rooms by painting the ceilings in bright and cheery colors. If you want a warm and airy Caribbean space, go for a yellow color.
  • Introduce the sea and the sky indoors by involving shades of blue. A simple and soothing blue is a perfect and healthy color for your sleeping space while a striking blue can mimic sparkling blue waters.
  • Ditch the conservative hues and have fun playing with whimsical colors. A coral room, bold accents, pops of bright colors and radiant walls can add brilliance and that tropical vine in unexpected areas of your house.

Most Caribbean households have at least one classic piece of furniture. Picked up at an auction or passed down from generations, antiques can not only set a vintage style but also add a tropical flair to your house. You could throw in a simple chair made of tropical woods such as mahogany or a little velvet reupholstery.

#3. Infuse a Little Textile

  • Caribbean design also features sheer canopy fabric. While giving off a comfortable vibe, this fabric can also create the getaway shack feel.
  • If you want to bring the life of the islands to your rooms, consider a sheer mosquito net handing overhead, a popular bedding choice.

#4. Add Wallpaper and Wall Décor

How to Decorate Your Home in African Style

Summary

– Principle of an African decoration

– Which furniture for this decoration?

– Wall coverings adapted to an African decoration

– Floor coverings for this style of decoration

– Textiles or curtains to create an African decoration

The living room has become THE living room par excellence. We are thus witnessing the emergence of new decoration styles for this room: African, design, Asian or Moroccan decoration; the main thing is to make your living room friendly. In this post, we will look at the principle of African decoration.

Who has never seen a documentary on African tribes or the film by Sydney Pollack “Out of Africa”?

Who has never dreamed of going on a safari with a camera? The heat, the extraordinary landscapes…

Invite yourself to this nomadic dream by following the few ideas below:

– Whatever the size of your room, it must be comfortable, elegant without being overloaded with large furniture.

– Mix materials such as ebony (if your budget allows it) or wenge (more affordable), iron, sisal, rattan…

– Opt for “animal skin” patterns or plain in sand, ochre, red or beige tones, but you’ll have understood: banish floral and tartan patterns for this atmosphere!

Which furniture for this decoration?

How to Decorate Your Home in African Style

The audiovisual storage unit will be the focal point of your African living room decoration. Made of wood with a waxed patina, it will be dark and trimmed with rusty hardware to give a tribal look.

For the other furniture:

– The coffee table will be brown shisham wood with light purple accents, carved for framing with turned legs.

– You will place a layer (a kind of sofa) against the wall painted in a dark colour to create a contrasting effect. Two armchairs will accompany this with high braided backs, filled with ecru coloured cushions for optimal comfort.

If there is enough space, you will place a console with rusty iron legs and a glass shelf against a light wall. You can decorate it with antiques reflecting a hypothetical trip.

If the proposed furniture does not fit your budget, nothing prevents you from creating it yourself. To do so:

– Get a coffee table in untreated white wood and brush on a coat of mahogany stain.

– After drying, apply a coat of dark walnut stain.

– Once dry (24 hours), take a cloth, coat it with furniture polish and pass it in rotating gestures over the entire table.

– Do the same for the storage unit.

And don’t forget to place animal figurines such as giraffes in the corner of the room. These should be tall.

Wall coverings adapted to an African decoration.

An African decoration is meant to be bright and clear. To avoid darkening the room:

– Paint with glycerine paint 3 walls in ecru and one wall in chocolate.

– If the chocolate doesn’t appeal to you, replace this colour with a dark red “tadelakt” coating that will match your furniture perfectly and give a very personal look due to its irregularities.

– These techniques will give an aspect of depth to the room.

You can also decorate your walls:

– an unframed rug with bush animal motifs that you can match to the whole room;

– a hanging with African motifs, sold in specialized stores, which will be machine washable at will;

– a copper tray which will be a masterpiece: to be fixed to the darkest wall;

– wooden masks decorated by 3 and fixed obliquely to the lightest walls.

Tip: in an ecological spirit, you can replace masks and copper trays with palm leaves in filigree and varnished iron.

Floor coverings for this style of decoration

Play with clarity by laying a white ceruse floor that will bring a desert terrace finish to your African decor. On this one lay a carpet in fake zebra skin, very well imitated in specialized retailers.

You can also choose a white matte tile grouted with chocolate or red to contrast with the darker wall and highlight the unbleached walls.

Here too, rugs are a must, especially under the coffee table. Choose it in large sizes, even in the shape of a leaf, to give a racy bucolic look. As for the material, choose sisal, hand-woven wool or coir.

Textiles or curtains to create an African decoration

You can afford everything from the bamboo blinds through the curtains for this African decoration, do not hesitate!

If you choose curtains, fix them on an iron rod without fancy tips. You will mount these curtains in a simple panel (i.e. without patterns) on eyelets.

The thick cotton curtains, preferably plain, will be mounted on a wrought iron rod with curved ends. They will be held to not darken the room by triangular tiebacks in varnished MDF with a transverse peak.

Tip: do not hesitate to place palm trees or large plants to bring a savannah spirit to your African decoration!
